Dr. Fotuhi is a Harvard and Johns Hopkins trained neurologist who has had numerous publications in major peer-reviewed journals and has been featured in a number of national media outlets. He has had 25 years of teaching, clinical work, and neuroscience research experience at Harvard and Johns Hopkins.
In addition to his position as the medical director of NeuroGrow Brain Fitness Center, Dr. Fotuhi serves as an affiliate staff member at Johns Hopkins Medicine and a lecturer at Harvard Medical School. He is also the author of three books, including the recently released Boost Your Brain, the New Art and Science Behind Enhanced Brain Performance, conducts clinical research and gives public lectures about brain health, prevention of Alzheimer’s disease, and expanding brain capacity.
Chief Operating Officer
Bita oversees all business and operational aspects of our practice. She ensures that all of our patients and staff are fully satisfied with their experiences at NeuroGrow. She handles the human resource aspects, staff scheduling, billing, technology matters, and communication with insurance companies. She serves as an advocate for our patients, and promptly addresses any concerns they may have.
Bita has had a great deal of leadership experience in the field of technology and healthcare. She earned her engineering degree from Concordia University in 1999 and pursued a career as a computer engineer at Ericsson. She then joined Lockheed Martin corporation and was involved in their contract with Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, including the modernization of their on-line Affordable Care Act. Prior to joining NeuroGrow, Bita served as the practice manager for the Neurology Institute for Brain Health and Fitness where she was in charge of technology, HR, and the business aspects of that operation.
In her spare time, Bita enjoys spending time with her two young daughters (Nora & Maya) and her husband (Dr. Fotuhi), dancing tango, fitness training, and traveling.
Practice Manager
Yumna helps with scheduling appointments, billing, and addressing patient concerns. She is incredibly thoughtful and considerate; she makes sure that patients are fully satisfied with the services they receive at our brain center.
Yumna graduated from Shenandoah University with Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology and a minor in Biology, and plans on pursing a Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy with a concentration in Pediatrics. In her junior year she helped conduct a study which demonstrated the different impacts that fitness can have on the brain with alternative music choices. She also worked with her school soccer team and conducted exercise testing as part of her curriculum.
In her free time, Yumna enjoys traveling, dancing, going to the gym, listening to music, and learning about different cultures. She is also fluent in four languages and plans to continue learning more.
Lead Brain Coach
Emily earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology from public honors college at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She worked previously as an assistant teacher helping children with emotional and behavioral disabilities. Outside of school and work, she played volleyball during her college career and has helped coach a volleyball team for young girls.
Emily is incredibly kind and compassionate. She feels passionate about helping our patients realize their full potential and enjoys assisting them along their journey to become more confident in their cognitive abilities.
In her free time, Emily likes to spend time with her family and friends, cook and watch Netflix.
Lead EEG Technician
Courtney is our enthusiastic Lead EEG/Neurofeedback Technician who enjoys getting to know our patients as well as seeing them improve throughout their neurofeedback program.
Courtney received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. She is now pursuing a master’s degree in medical sciences with a concentration in Physiology and Pharmacology. Her goal is to become a physician.
In her free time, she enjoys visiting new wineries, playing with her three cats, and traveling.
Scribe/Brain Coach
Carina is one of the Brain Coaches at NeuroGrow. She has always been fascinated by the brain and the basis of learning, memory, behavior, and beyond. These interests led her to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from the College of William & Mary and a master’s degree in Forensic Science from George Mason University. She is excited to work at NeuroGrow as she can combine her passion for psychology with her passion to help others.
In her free time, Carina loves spending time with her family and friends as well as spending time outdoors! During college, she was a distance runner for the William & Mary and George Mason Cross Country and Track and Field teams.
Brain Coach
Jana earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the American University of Beirut. She is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
As a Brain Coach at NeuroGrow, Jana takes pride in the work she does to help patients reach their full potential. She plans to become a clinical psychologist with her own private practice and advocate for mental health awareness.
In her free time, Jana enjoys reading, drawing, and spending time with her family and friends.
Scribe/Brain Coach
Jeeya earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology with a concentration in Neuropsychology and a minor in Public Health from the American University. She is excited to be working as a Brain Coach and a Scribe for NeuroGrow while either pursuing a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology or applying to medical school.
Jeeya loves working with patients and participating in research projects. She previously conducted research on neonatal mimicry in infants at the university's psychology lab, and at INOVA Fairfax Hospital where she investigated DNA methylation in promotor regions of various genes. Jeeya has also worked at American University's student health center where she administered COVID testing. She volunteered at One Tent Health where she conducted HIV screenings and promoted preventative health measures as well.
In her free time, Jeeya enjoys spending time with friends, reading, and going on spontaneous adventures.
Brain Coach
Luah earned her Bachelor of Arts from The George Washington University in Psychology with a minor in Public Health and Criminal Justice. During college, she worked at GW’s Health Cognitions and Behaviors Research Lab, where she studied how experiences of social rejection impact various aspects of health.
Luah plans to pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychology and continue working in a private practice setting.
In her free time, Luah enjoys watching and playing soccer, visiting museums, and dancing.
Brain Coach
Rafael earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience with a minor in Psychology, as well as a Master of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience from George Mason University.
He is excited to help patients attain their brain health goals at NeuroGrow. In college, he has been immersed in research regarding the neuronal basis of learning and memory. His graduate research specifically focused on modeling Alzheimer’s disease using transgenic mice. As a graduate student he also taught a biopsychology lab course teaching undergraduate students about brain structures through dissections. He plans to pursue an MD, PhD, or both in the future.
In his free time, he enjoys watching movies, spending time with his family, and staying active.
Neurofeedback/EEG Technician
Shruti earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry, from Virginia Commonwealth University. During her time at VCU, she was a research assistant at the Healthy Lifestyles Center, associated with the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU where she worked on projects pertaining to child obesity and food environment studies. She also participated in the Accountable Health Communities screening in association with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. She hopes to use these experiences to mold her career in healthcare.
In her free time, Shruti enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, and reading.
Neurofeedback/EEG Technician
Veronica is a Neurofeedback/EEG Technician and takes on other administrative duties. She is an easygoing and caring person.
Veronica graduated from Old Dominion University and earned her bachelor’s in psychology. She gained experience with working with people of all ages when she administered psychological assessments under the supervision of a clinical psychologist. She has also presented research at Longwood University and Clemson University on how different simulated driving modes affect motion sickness.
Veronica is also interested in naturopathic methods to figure out and understand root causes of imbalances in the body. She hopes to pursue a Master’s or a Ph.D. In her free time, Veronica likes to go to the gym, cook vegan recipes, and play video games.
Neurofeedback/EEG Technician
Allison enjoys helping and getting to know patients as a Neurofeedback/EEG Technician at NeuroGrow. She graduated from George Mason University with her Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She is now pursuing her master’s degree in Counseling. Allison’s experience working as a pre-school teacher has inspired her to specialize in pediatric counseling. She has a particular interest in mind-body medicine and the neural pathways related to trauma-responses and chronic pain.
In her free time, she enjoys attending concerts, practicing yoga, biking, thrift shopping, and watching horror movies.
Neurofeedback/EEG Technician
Kanza works at NeuroGrow as a Neurofeedback/EEG Technician. She loves making patients feel comfortable while they are receiving their treatment protocols. Before working at NeuroGrow, Kanza worked as a pharmacy assistant. She plans to pursue her education in the coming years and obtain her master's degree in Public Health.
Kanza admires the beauty of the nature in our area. She loves exploring places like Luray Caverns. Painting and spending time with her friends and family are also among her interests.
Neurofeedback/Neurocognitive Testing Technician
Sophie is a Neurofeedback Technician and Neurocognitive Evaluation Technician here at NeuroGrow. She is currently enrolled in a master’s degree program for Clinical Mental Health Counseling at George Washington University on her journey to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University. Sophie has previous experience as a research assistant in a psychology lab as well as a pharmacology and toxicology lab. Through these experiences, she found her passion for both mental health and science. Sophie is very friendly, patient, and easy to talk to. She currently spends some of her time volunteering at her local domestic violence shelter.
In her free time, Sophie enjoys going on long hikes with her Australian Cattle Dog. She also enjoys weightlifting, cycling, and cooking.
Neurofeedback/Neurocognitive Testing Technician
Chloe is an undergraduate student at the University of Virginia completing her bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She has years of experience working with infants and toddlers, including formulating and implementing the Innovation Approach designed by the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University.
Chloe has a passion for neuroscience, especially as it pertains to behavior and child development. She naturally gravitates towards people and enjoys working hands-on with patients. She plans to pursue her PhD in Clinical Psychology.
In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors, live music, movies, and traveling.
Executive Assistant/Brain Coach
Mariam obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Minor in Psychology from Marymount University. During college, she completed an internship assisting with multiple clinical studies at Emerson Clinical Research Institute and studied Marine Biology during a semester abroad in Belize. Mariam plans to pursue a medical degree to provide clinical services to people in need in developing countries.
In her free time, Mariam enjoys horseback riding, swimming, and spending time with family.
Clinical Administrator/Brain Coach
Sometimes patients who suffered a concussion have lingering symptoms for weeks, months, or even years. With his expertise in the fields of memory, migraine, sleep, anxiety, and dizziness, Dr. Fotuhi has put together a successful program for such patients.
We offer a comprehensive program that includes neurofeedback, a drug-free treatment for children or adults with ADD or ADHD. This is a safe and effective method supported by numerous placebo-controlled clinical trials.
Dr. Fotuhi has over 25 years of research and clinical experience at Johns Hopkins and Harvard Medical School in the field of memory, aging, and brain rehabilitation. Neurogrow’s “Brain Fitness Program”, developed by Dr. Fotuhi, has an 84% success rate.
