At NeuroGrow Brain Fitness Center, we understand that our patients are more than their symptoms; they are human beings with emotions, challenges, and aspirations. Peak brain performance is only achieved by thoroughly understanding our patients as whole people and developing a compassionate, holistic treatment plan.
Dr. Fotuhi is a Harvard and Johns Hopkins trained neurologist who has had numerous publications in major peer-reviewed journals and has been featured in a number of national media outlets. He has had 25 years of teaching, clinical work, and neuroscience research experience at Harvard and Johns Hopkins.
In addition to his position as the medical director of NeuroGrow Brain Fitness Center, Dr. Fotuhi serves as an affiliate staff member at Johns Hopkins Medicine and a lecturer at Harvard Medical School. He is also the author of three books, including the recently released Boost Your Brain, the New Art and Science Behind Enhanced Brain Performance, conducts clinical research and gives public lectures about brain health, prevention of Alzheimer’s disease, and expanding brain capacity.
Emily earned her bachelor’s degree of health sciences with a focus in pre-physician assistant studies and minor in biology from James Madison University. Following a year working as an assistant to a spine surgeon, she entered the Physician Assistant program at Duke University, from which she received a master’s degree in health sciences.
She began her career as a Physician Assistant at George Washington University hospital in internal medicine. After teaching and mentoring many PA students during their clinical rotations, Emily was appointed to the adjunct faculty at the University. She continues to see patients at GW in the medical and psychiatric units.
While a student at Duke, Emily performed as a singer in a cover band. On her days off, Emily enjoys spending time with her fiancé, her sister and brother-in-law, and her twin nephews. She loves running, exploring live music in the DC area, and planning a next trip to someplace she’s never been before.
Chief Operating Officer
Bita oversees all business and operational aspects of our practice. She ensures that all of our patients and staff are fully satisfied with their experiences at NeuroGrow. She handles the human resource aspects, staff scheduling, billing, technology matters, and communication with insurance companies. She serves as an advocate for our patients, and promptly addresses any concerns they may have.
Bita has had a great deal of leadership experience in the field of technology and healthcare. She earned her engineering degree from Concordia University in 1999 and pursued a career as a computer engineer at Ericsson. She then joined Lockheed Martin corporation and was involved in their contract with Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, including the modernization of their on-line Affordable Care Act. Prior to joining NeuroGrow, Bita served as the practice manager for the Neurology Institute for Brain Health and Fitness where she was in charge of technology, HR, and the business aspects of that operation.
In her spare time, Bita enjoys spending time with her two young daughters (Nora & Maya) and her husband (Dr. Fotuhi), dancing tango, fitness training, and traveling.
Practice Manager
Yumna helps with scheduling appointments, billing, and addressing patient concerns. She is incredibly thoughtful and considerate; she makes sure that patients are fully satisfied with the services they receive at our brain center.
Yumna graduated from Shenandoah University with Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology and a minor in Biology, and plans on pursing a Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy with a concentration in Pediatrics. In her junior year she helped conduct a study which demonstrated the different impacts that fitness can have on the brain with alternative music choices. She also worked with her school soccer team and conducted exercise testing as part of her curriculum.
In her free time, Yumna enjoys traveling, dancing, going to the gym, listening to music, and learning about different cultures. She is also fluent in four languages and plans to continue learning more.
Social Worker
Keller graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor’s in Social Work and furthered her education at George Mason University with a Masters in Social Work. She is currently working towards becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Keller has worked with all types of populations including the elderly, disabled, and children. She is an active member of the National Association of Social Workers. Keller is kind, cheerful, and passionate about helping patients become the best version of themselves.
In her free time, Keller enjoys spending time with her friends and family, playing with her dogs, reading, and traveling.
Lead EEG Technician
Courtney is our enthusiastic EEG Technician who enjoys getting to know our patients, as well as seeing them improve throughout their neurofeedback program.
Courtney received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. In her senior year she conducted multiple independent research studies which included research on pain thresholds. It is through her course work and her research that she discovered her passion for Cognitive Neuroscience. She is planning to further her education in Cognitive Neuroscience and hopes to achieve a Masters’ degree or a Ph.D.
In her free time, she enjoys exploring her new home, trying new restaurants, visiting wineries and breweries, hiking and traveling.
Lead Brain Coach
Emily earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology from public honors college at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She worked previously as an assistant teacher helping children with emotional and behavioral disabilities. Outside of school and work, she played volleyball during her college career and has helped coach a volleyball team for young girls.
Emily is incredibly kind and compassionate. She feels passionate about helping our patients realize their full potential and enjoys assisting them along their journey to become more confident in their cognitive abilities.
In her free time, Emily likes to spend time with her family and friends, cook and watch Netflix.
Brain Coach
Haley graduated from Longwood University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology. Previously, she worked as an Intensive In-Home Clinician for a mental health agency working with families and children at risk of being removed from their homes. She is currently enrolled in a Master’s program at Capella University for Clinical Mental Health Counseling and plans to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. She is an active member in the counseling national honor society, Chi Sigma Iota. As a Brain Coach, she enjoys encouraging patients to improve their sleep, fitness, diet, and stress levels in order to improve their cognitive functioning.
In her free time, Haley enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing with her dog Paisley, cooking, gardening, and going to the gym.
Brain Coach
Hamayel is one of our cheerful and energetic associates who is pursuing her education in bio-psychology and neuroscience at George Mason University. Hamayel is a certified Life coach and Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner. She plans to become a physician.
Hamayel has worked with children who had learning disabilities and showed them new ways of learning and memorizing. She played an active role in a tutoring center during her high school where she was a Chief Instructor. She also worked in an Optometry office as an Office Coordinator and Optometric Technician. She conducted preliminary testing, taught patients how to handle contacts and glasses, and maintained patient flow
In her free time, she choreographs dances and performs them on stage and at weddings. Her other hobbies include traveling and learning about new cultures and meeting new people, modeling, photography, and spending time with her family.
Brain Coach & Clinical Administrator
Cassandra is one of our energetic staff members who is willing to help with any project in our office. Her main responsibilities include administrating the neurocognitive testing for our patients and helping with the administrative issues in the front desk area.
She earned her Bachelors Degree in Health Sciences at James Madison University. She loves learning more about the brain and feels passionate about helping people. As such, she plans to pursue her education and obtain a PhD in Cognitive Neuropsychology.
During her time in college, she worked as a student intern at NeuroHealth Solutions where she worked on a project about EEG and brain mapping. She became fascinated by the brain and enthusiastically chose to focus her career in the field of psychology and neuroscience.
In her free time, Cassandra likes to go on runs and hang out with friends.
Clinical Administrator
Brittany is a recent graduate from Old Dominion University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation with a minor in Psychology. She completed her internship at a memory care facility where she pursued her passion in helping others while challenging her patients into improving their cognitive abilities mentally and physically. Brittany plans to continue her education by obtaining her Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
In her free time, Brittany enjoys spending time with her family and friends, engaging in outdoor activities, coaching gymnastics and traveling.
EEG Technician
Chloe is one of our enthusiastic EEG/neurofeedback technicians. She loves helping people in any way she can, and greatly enjoys seeing our patients improve through their neurofeedback program.
Chloe earned her Bachelor’s degree in psychology from George Mason University. The brain has been her passion since a young age, and she loves to learn everything about it. At college, she participated in multiple research studies involving psychology, neuroscience, and statistics; she also became certified in mental health first aid. She plans to continue her education with a Masters in Cognitive Neuroscience.
In her free time, Chloe enjoys cross-stitching, watching TV, and talking to her family back in England.
EEG Technician
Shruti earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry, from Virginia Commonwealth University. During her time at VCU, she was a research assistant at the Healthy Lifestyles Center, associated with the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU where she worked on projects pertaining to child obesity and food environment studies. She also participated in the Accountable Health Communities screening in association with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. She hopes to use these experiences to mold her career in healthcare.
In her free time, Shruti enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, and reading.
Clinical Administrator
Veronica schedules appointments and takes on other administrative duties. She is an easygoing and caring person.
Veronica graduated from Old Dominion University and earned her bachelor’s in psychology. She gained experience with working with people of all ages when she administered psychological assessments under the supervision of a clinical psychologist. She has also presented research at Longwood University and Clemson University on how different simulated driving modes affect motion sickness.
Veronica is also interested in naturopathic methods to figure out and understand root causes of imbalances in the body. She hopes to pursue a Master’s or a Ph.D. In her free time, Veronica likes to go to the gym, cook vegan recipes, and play video games.
Brain Coach
Tyler is a Brain Coach who completed his Bachelors of Science at George Mason University in Recreational Therapy. He then went on to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. He has experience working at Arbor Terrace, a memory care facility in Fairfax, Virginia. Tyler has also spent time working with children with mental and physical disabilities in summer camp settings. He loves that “lightbulb” moment when patients’ eyes light up as they complete a difficult task. He also loves seeing the progress people make in their treatment.
In his free time Tyler loves to watch and play various sports, spend time outdoors, socialize, and brush up on his world history.
Neurofeedback / EEG Technician
Scribe
Eve is our dedicated medical scribe. She graduated with her BA in history from Swarthmore College and is currently pursuing an M.Ed in sports management from the University of Kansas.
After graduating college, Eve spent three years in Kathmandu, Nepal as founder and director of her own nonprofit internship program. She moved back to the US in 2019 to pursue her career in coaching and athletic administration. She has extensive experience in project research and design, including serving as a design assistant for a project to expand UIC Chicago’s non-emergency medical transport for low-income patients.
As former collegiate swimmer, Eve spends most of her free time picking up new sports. Her hobbies include salsa dancing, CrossFit, ice hockey, ultimate frisbee, photography, and painting.
Neurofeedback / Brain Coach
Lizzie earned her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at Christopher Newport University. During college, she worked with survivors of abuse and those struggling with their mental health in her role as a Resident Assistant at a sexual assault survivor advocacy program. . She also conducted research studying links between social support and depression. These experiences deepened her love for working with people and her interest in how the brain works. At NeuroGrow, she loves helping the patients along in their treatment process and in the future, she hopes to continue following her passion for this field and obtain a Ph.D. in Psychology and Neuroscience.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, reading, and doing yoga.
Brain Coach / Neurofeedback
Emily Lipstein graduated from UNC Asheville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, while also obtaining an Interdisciplinary Certificate in Contemplative Inquiry. This certification included courses that focused on creating spaces for greater inquiry, connection, reflection, and mindfulness techniques.
Emily loves learning about the brain and has always had a passion for helping others. She previously interned as a neurofeedback technician at a residential treatment center in North Carolina. Emily is in the process of attaining her BCN neurofeedback certification so that she can continue to help others and make a positive impact on people’s lives.
In her free time, Emily loves hiking, being with her friends and family, and traveling. During her undergraduate career she traveled/studied abroad in Spain, Israel and Ecuador!
Clinical Administrator
Emily is one of our clinical administrators responsible for scheduling, billing, and managing front desk tasks. She earned her degree in Neuroscience from Dickinson College in 2018, she hopes to continue her studies with a degree in psychology.
After graduating she moved to Israel for two years in order to spend more time with her extended family. During her time abroad she worked at tech start-up performing a wide scope of duties such as digital marketing and product management. She enjoys going to exercise classes at the gym, jewelry making, and podcasts.

Dr. Fotuhi has over 25 years of research and clinical experience at Johns Hopkins and Harvard Medical School in the field of memory, aging, and brain rehabilitation. Neurogrow’s “Brain Fitness Program”, developed by Dr. Fotuhi, has an 84% success rate.
In addition to his published clinical research, Dr. Fotuhi has been featured in a number of national media outlets. He routinely gives academic lectures to large audiences in the United States and around the world.
